Image Management Tool Revisited

With projects at Free Agency picking up again, and a few side projects under my belt, I have not had as much time as I hoped to finish the IMT. I have managed to almost complete the front end, which can be totaly customized by modifying the stylesheet. You can check it out here: Ilgrafica Image Management.

Image Management Tool v1.0

For the last few days I have been working on a little backend image manage system. I started from scratch on Tuesday and had it 90% complete by the end of the day. On Wednesday I just did some final tweaking to the uploading features, as well as making the interface pretty. I will be adding a few more features to it, then when I feels its ready, will release it to the public as an open source app. It should be pretty simple to setup, as I will create a simple little installer script for it. If you are interested in seeing it, just leave me a comment and I will send you the link (I don’t want a bunch of people uploading stuff they shouldnt).

Hosting Switch

This morning I switched over all my web hosting to Dreamhost. It went over quite smoothly, and I think my site was only down for about 10 minutes. It was just a matter of uploading all my sites, importing all my mySQL data, and changing a few connection variables. I know I will like it here at Dreamhost. Their support is phenomenal, and what you get for your money can’t be beat. :)

Sungod+Cogneto = Lots of Work, Not Much Time

So recently work has picked back up at Free Agecncy. I have been working hard knocking out projects trying to get them done as fast as I can, but with out loosing any of that classic “sweet site” feel. Over the last week I have been hella busy. I knocked out 2 sites in about 6 days. The first site was for a physiotherapy clinic called Sungod Physiotherapy. You can check out what was built in a matter of about 4 days here. Sungod Physio. The other site I finished up in about a day and a half, it have a very fun and playful, yet corporate feel. Check it out, I’m sure you will like the way it feels. Cogneto.

Professional Website: $10,000 Per Page and the Reasons Why

Great read on the reasons for charging a true cost when developing a website for client, where that money goes, and the importance of having a solid business site. Good to bookmark if you’ve ever struggled to explain to the client why they’re paying for your web work.

Firefox > 10%

Over the last few years Firefox has seen a lot of interest, but it has been slow to take over. It may not be there yet, but it has taking a dent out of that other (in my opinion.. useless) browser labeled IE. Over the last year it has taking over 3 percent from Microsoft, where it now stands at over 10 percent of the browser marketshare. Thanks to everyone over at Mozilla for creating what we all needed, a better browser. If you don’t already use it, I suggest getting on it, ASAP. Head on over to the Firefox web site and download yourself a copy now. If your curious why Internet Exploror is so useless, check out the “Looks fine in IE, but…” post on spreadfirefox.com. The resistance is growing.

I’ve Been Busy

Today I was busy working on tdSwansburg’s web site. I have been working on it for the past 2 months or so. Its starting to wind down since the project is almost done. If your interested, have a look at it, tdSwansburg Design Studio. Also, I have been busy working on this little blog side project. Today I tweaked out some of the colours and how some of the things are layed out. I desided to add a classic starburst to the bottom of the menu. I think it added a nice touch and really made it feel “finished”. I also got around to linking up the icons under the header, to my portfolio and to the rss feed for the blog your reading. The plan is to add new icons every once in awhile to other sites I like. I also went as far as to add a new page that links up to my del.icio.us account. It grabs the 40 most recent links I have posted. Over the next week or so, I will be setting up sub pages so I can grab specific categories, instead of just the most recent links I’ve saved. Keep an eye out for it.

You Say Party, We Say Die! Web Production

YSPWSD is a Vancouver band which Cody Fennell recently designed a website for. He built a city of paper buildings, and after a few months of photoshop work, he fishished the design and gave me a call. In about 8 hours work, I managed to get the site built and to a really good stage. There are still a few things that need to be tweaked, but the majority of it is done. Check it in my archive.. YSPWSD

The blog you see here…

… was setup in a few hours. I desided to update my blog (and actually start using it again). I started using wordpress as my blog CMS, as it is a fully featured, well rounded app. I installed a few plugins, and did many tweaks to get the software to act, and look the way I required. The theme was created to match my portfolio, but a little more colour was brought in with the greens.

Database Switchover

So over the last few weeks I have been really tweeking my site to get the most out of it. I switched it over from a simple file includes version, which included a php file for each one of my portfolio entrys. The new version, though nothing differant is seen in the front end, now runs using MySQL as the backend database, and a custom CMS which allows me to easily add new entrys, and modify old ones at any time, from anywhere. I also built a custom tracker, which keeps track of which entrys people are looking at, and how often. So over all it may not look like a lot has changed, but that was the point.
